Rainbow Goodness:)

Has been a very busy day today! Woke up, meandered down stairs to feed the pup and kitties. Well, really just the pup and one kitty, Ace, the piglet. Bill had already let Miss Kitty out. Clicked on the coffee pot and plopped down at the puter to work on a new website for a local company. I don't like the design I came up with, but they love it and that's all that matters. I do like that I can work from home in my oh-so-not-very-becoming pa-jammies, but there are some draw backs to it. For starters, you live and work at the same place. So needless to say, the happy little cleaning fairy is not going to wave her sparkly little magic wand and go poof to make the daily mess go away. Nope, the grumpy cleaning troll with hair sticking haphazardly out of her pony tail and in her oh-not-so-very-becoming pa-jammies does this.

From here I have a list of things yet to do... Start a load of laundry, run the RODI-water so I can top off the fishie tank, run another 5 gallons of RODI water so that I can change the water in the fishie tank tomorrow, put up clean dishes so the washer can be reloaded after dinner, fix a salad for dinner, run to the post office, swing by the grocery to get something to go with the salad..... And this is where my little brain finally had a good idea.....

I remember seeing a site the other day where someone had made a 'Rainbow Cake'! Oh, it looked so darn fun and so bright and cheerful:) And lets face it, I really don't use the Kitchen-Aid mixer quite enough. Added a box of white cake, some gel food coloring (not liquid drops) and a pair of Wilton 9" cake pans.....

With my extra bits in tow, I rush home so I can fix Bill his BBQ chicken to go with the salad and get started on my cake following the white cake directions to a tee until it comes to pouring it in the pan. Instead I separate the batter into several bowls and mix each bowl with a different color or blend of food coloring gel. I then started plopping 1/2 of each color right on top of one another in the center of 9" cake pans. Then back to the cake directions for cooking:)

While it was cooking I whipped up some yummie if not a bit sugary cream cheese icing from a recipe I found online. I'm thanking my lucky stars I did a taste test after adding 2 cups of confectioners sugar to the butter and cream cheese blend. Pulled the cakes out of the oven and let them cool. Then I frosted and slapped it in the fridge so that I could go weed eat the yard, wash Miss Piper and take Miss Piper for a walk.

After my shower, I zipped down the stairs pulled out my pretty little cake and finally found how good a little slice of a rainbow can be at the end of your day:) But then again, one could also call this the true 'End of the Rainbow'!

Two Timing Sock Yarn...

There's something new at the shop, LunabudKnits. And it's called Two Timing sock yarn! It hit me like a ton of bricks not too long ago that I really like how the monster socks look with all the fun color changes. BUT.... I cringe at the idea of weaving in all those ends! So I formulated a plan. Why not knit up some double stranded blanks on my little machine and then dye them! I don't like knitting from a blank, so I've wound them into smart little balls so knitters have an idea of the fun color changes.

Oh, and did I mention the ball is a double stranded ball? This is where the 'Two Timing' bit comes in, so that you can knit two socks at the same time! How fun!!

Horsing Around

Went out not too long ago to visit Miss Applebutter the Appaloosa and her friends. For those of you who don't know what an appaloosa is, Applebutter is the black, grey & white spotted horse. I thank my lucky stars that it is free to keep her where she is. In return for the free board, I have all the other horses in the field trimmed when ever Applebutter gets her manucure;)

Applebutter and I go way back. I guess it was the summer of 1995 when I was working at the racetrack and doing some side horsey work that I found Applebutter in the paper. Actually, I was calling about her mother, who was a tad bit out of my price range. They offered up a yearling filly with no papers and a mysterious back ground instead. I went out to see her and fell in love. The family I bought her from had named her Applebutter because when she was born, she was the color of applebutter. It is a name that suits her even though she has definitely changed her spots! She and I spent the summer getting to know one another and she became the first horse I started and trained.

After a year with Applebutter, I decided it was more important to have an appartment as opposed to a horse, so I sold her. You know, that was always one of those decisions I regretted from my wild younger years, so in 2004 I bought her back.

She isn't the same horse I sold, but we enjoy each others company and understand one another. Needless to say, she will be with me for the rest of her life which I hope is a very long one as horses go:)

Knitwitch yarn bowl just in:)

yarn bowl:)

It just arrived! And I'm doing the happy pee-pee dance that it's here:) My new yarn bowl from Knit Witch! See it was on sale and I do adore the last bowl I got from Brittany, so I just couldn't resist. I just knew when it got here I wouldn't be bothered at all by the little chip on the base. And I was right, the chip is barely noticeable! The bowl has a pretty dirty green glaze on the outside and a mustard glaze on the interior. I just love it!

BTW, guess I should do a quick plug here.... I'm now carrying sample and 4 ounce bottles of SOAK fiber wash in all 4 flavors: Flora, Aquae, Citrus and Unscented. Come on over to the shop, LunabudKnits and check it out!

My New Moosie Spindle is here!

moosie spindle
Yes, it is finally here! After about 8 months my wee little moosie finally arrived safe and sound. And is it ever a joy to spin on. In the photo, I have a picture of the Moosie which has a Kingwood shaft, the skein of turquoise yarn I just finished spinning on it, and a ball of my turquoise hand dyed and dizzed roving that was used for the skein.

If you are interested in starting your own moosie herd, you can contact the Bosworths on their site Journey Wheel.

And of course hand made roving is available in my little shop LunabudKnits:)

Other Fun Facts..................

I taught myself to knit by watching a woman while on a flight from Scotland to the USA in 1996.

I taught myself how to spin yarn Feb 15th, 2007. I think I've done fairly well:)

'Lunabud' is a combination of two dogs' names I was loved by, Buddy and Luna:)
